DANCE SHOES
Why are LADIES DANCE Shoes are so important?
Investing in proper dance shoes is like buying a sports uniform or required equipment. Would you run without tennis shoes? Would you play soccer without cleats? Would you bowl in street shoes? I didn’t think so. So, why would you dance without wearing dance shoes? Sure you can get away with wearing sandals or dress shoes for a while; but, eventually when you are dancing more advanced patterns, doing turns, or moves in general that require more technique, you’ll really need to be wearing the proper uniform. It is the key element to better performance on the dance floor (other than a smile of course)!
Dance shoes are more flexible, supportive and safe to wear than a street shoe. They have suede soles which should be made of good quality and well adhered to the actual shoe. The suede helps to provide grip as well as enough slick to dance well on a hardwood floor. The suede is also beneficial in helping to eliminate any lag time from the upper body’s movement down through the lower body; meaning, your knee won’t feel the brunt of a delayed turn. Ouch! The actual structure of the shoe varies depending on whether you are a social dancer or a competitive dancer. Social dance shoes have a lot more frame to them providing flexibility along with support. Competition dance shoes are much more flexible, making it easier to articulate the foot with each movement. Dance shoes come in several shapes, heights and styles as well. Finding the right dance shoe is first determined mostly by what style of dance you do. Have fun Cinderella!

BUYERS GUIDE:
Dance shoes have varying heights and styles. It’s best to find a heel height and shape that you will feel comfortable dancing in. In addition, find a style that is going to keep your foot securely in place. Pick a shoe with a tight enough fit that you’ll need to break them in a bit. Point your toes and make sure you don’t have an inch of over-hang suede off the front. Be sure your pinky toes aren’t poking out of the straps on the front. If the ankle straps are too long, you may cut them on an angle leaving at least 2.5” of strap after the buckle. Ultimately, pick the shoe designed for your style of dancing that makes turning, pointing and articulating your foot feel steady and comfortable. Lastly, spring for the additional cost on shoes with extra padding.
SHOE CARE:
Caring properly for your dance shoes can certainly increase their floor life. The suede bottoms can easily be cleaned by grating them with a wire brush. This will remove any dirt that has been picked up and re-activate the suede’s ability to grip the floor. It’s always best to bring your shoes to an event in their shoe bag and change into them beside the dance floor. You’ll want to avoid wearing them as street shoes because liquid of any kind can damage your shoes (ex: oil in the parking lot, water, spilled drinks, damp grass, etc.).
